December Favourites 2018

So I realise I’m kind of super late with my December Favourites but I did have a lot of favourites last month (weird regarding last year as last month, but let’s continue) and I couldn’t do favourites for every other month and miss December – pretty sure that’s illegal.

Some of these favourites are things I got right at the end of December (because Christmas, duh) but I fell in love with them straight away and couldn’t wait to share them with you guys, so I just had to include them.

It’s kind of a strange mash up of things that I loved in December, but I said in my last post that I want to break free of only beauty related posts this year and I think it’s important to start as you mean to go on. So without further ado, here’s what I loved last month (year)!

If you follow me on Instagram (and maybe twitter?) then you would know that I kind of only listen to motion picture/tv series soundtracks nowadays – it’s like my classical music. Ramin Djawadi is by far one of my favourite composers (though I gotta give some love to John Williams, Michael Giacchino and Hans Zimmer), but the covers Ramin Djawadi does for Westworld? Mind blowing.

I love soundtracks because they’re so easy and calming to listen to, but they somehow manage to completely capture whatever story or emotion they’re trying to portray – incredible. The Westworld Season 2 soundtrack is easily one of my favourites, and I’ve always wanted it on vinyl, so I was beyond happy to receive it and a Crosley player for Christmas.

The record player is a gorgeous tan leather embossed with very bohemian designs that are right up my street, and I just absolutely love the style of it and finally being able to listen to records. You can bet you’ll be seeing my soundtrack vinyl collection growing a lot throughout the year.

You might remember that I joined the Dermalogica Skinfluencer programme last year, and honestly I’ve been blown away by all of their products. I put my skin through a lot this Christmas – junk food and alcohol isn’t the best of combos – and these three products in particular have helped to keep my skin somewhat alive.

The Precleanse is so incredible at removing all of your makeup – yep, even the toughest waterproof mascara – and is a really easy way to get completely clean skin, an essential over the party-filled holiday season.

All of the rubbish I filled my body with over Christmas left my skin super dull, so the Daily Microfoliant was an absolute godsend. It’s gentle enough that it doesn’t irritate even my super-sensitive skin, but it leaves my skin bright and oh so soft.

The final product that was a complete life saver for me is the Skin Smoothing Cream, my skin is dry at the best of times but especially during winter. This keeps your skin hydrated for 48 hours which is insane, and meant that I didn’t have to worry about my skin being dull or having any dry patches.

I love the Elizabeth and James Nirvana perfumes, but Bourbon is my absolute favourite. It’s a little sweet, a little smoky and totally perfect for winter.

With notes of Bourbon Vanilla, Oakwood and Tuberose, it’s a really intoxicating scent but also smells like a cosy winter evening spent by the fire. If you don’t love smoky, musky scents then there are a load of other options in the range – my other favourite is Nirvana Black which has Violet, Sandalwood and Vanilla.

Nude blushes are my favourite, and I’ve always heard such amazing things about the Tarte blushes. I got this in their huge offer that they did at the start of December where you can get six full-sized products for £56, and boy am I glad I picked this up.

When people said that these blushes last all day I thought they were exaggerating, but this seriously doesn’t move. It’s not super pigmented as you apply, which I much prefer in a blush as you can build it up without accidentally making yourself look like a clown.

I really haven’t used any other blush since getting this, it’s definitely become a huge staple of mine. If you’re thinking about getting anything from Tarte, get one of their blushes!

I absolutely love reading but I never feel like I read enough – I mean, I read a lot because I’m a lit student but I don’t always get to read the books I want to read. I’ve promised myself I’m going to read more this year, I’ve already read two books so it’s going well so far, and this one (that I technically finished in January but I’m putting it in my December favourites because I’m a rebel) blew me away.

It’s about a woman who receives a message asking for help from her friend who she hasn’t seen for fifteen years, and you slowly learn about the lies they told in their youth and how it’s all caught up to them. If you love thrillers then I guarantee you’ll love this – I genuinely couldn’t put it down.

My mum actually got me into this and I’ve been obsessed ever since my first use. This shade looks like a deep red but it translates as more of a burnt, deep rose which is beyond beautiful.

I love matte lips but they have to be hydrating, which this one most definitely is. I’m a huge fan of Burt’s Bees and their natural products, so it’s no surprise that I love this, but what I really love is that it has more of a blotted effect when applied which is my favourite way to wear lipstick. It’s also only £9.99 and a great dupe for the Bobbi Brown Lip Crayons!

So those are all of my favourites from December! I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and let me know in the comments what you loved most last month. See you next time,

A x
