Before we start, I just want to say that I realise I’m way behind on this type of post. Like way behind. We’re over halfway through the month and I’m only just writing up my favourite products of 2016, but I had other posts planned and scheduled, okay?! However, since this is my blog, I make the rules and my rules say I can post 2016 favourites whenever I want, so ha.
Now that we’ve cleared that up, I’ll start the introduction. 2016 was a pretty great year for makeup – not for much else, but definitely for makeup. I discovered so many new products that I now think of as staples in my collection, and today I’m going to share those with you! Here are my favourite makeup products of 2016.
Rimmel London ‘The Only 1’ Matte Lipstick in ‘Salute’
Ever since these lipsticks were released in 2016, I haven’t stopped raving about them. They’re probably my favourite matte lipsticks I’ve ever tried – they’re incredibly long-lasting and super matte, but they still feel moisturising! I especially love the shade ‘Salute’, it’s a gorgeous dusty rose-nude shade which is really flattering and one of my favourite shades to wear.
Benefit Ready, Set, Brow!
In 2016 Benefit brought out a new range of brow products, and this is definitely my favourite from the line. It keeps my brows in place all day without feeling crispy, and gives me the bushy, natural brow that I’m currently obsessed with. I am looking for a different brow gel to get once I’ve finished this though, as I’m trying to make my collection completely cruelty-free, which Benefit currently isn’t.
Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Acqua Eau de Toilette
Tom Ford does some of the most amazing perfumes in my opinion, but this is by far my favourite. It literally smells like a holiday, it’s super fresh and citrus-y and whenever I wear it I feel so summery. This perfume is crazy expensive, but if you have the money and fancy treating yourself, this is definitely the way to go.
YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint Foundation
My mum actually introduced me to this foundation after she fell in love with it, and as soon as I tried it I was hooked too. This foundation is full coverage, but still looks insanely natural and gives a really pretty glow to the skin. My favourite way to wear this is with a drop of facial oil to make my skin look extra dewy, I’m honestly so obsessed with this foundation and I never have a bad makeup day when I use this.
Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder
Arguably one of the most raved about products of 2016, as soon as I tried this powder I absolutely fell in love. It’s so finely milled so it doesn’t look thick or cake-y, it keeps my foundation looking great all day, plus it’s perfect for baking because it gives no flashback. Although this is a little pricey, you get a giant tub of this which will last a super long time, so I personally think it’s worth the investment.
Hourglass Ambient Light Correcting Primer in ‘Luminous Light’
I had been wanting to try out this primer all year (pretty much) in 2016, and when I finally got it in December I became obsessed. Not only does this even out my skin tone, it also gives me the most luminous, dewy skin of my life. You only need a really small amount of this otherwise it starts to bunch up a little – which is great because this is expensive so at least I’m getting a lot of use out of it!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in ‘Soft Brown’
I finally tried out the ABH Dipbrow this year and now I totally understand why everyone is so obsessed with it. This stuff is amazing. I’m not even exaggerating, I can do my brows in like two minutes with this product, and they look better than they ever have in their life! Not only is this an incredible product, it’s also only £15 (!), so I totally recommend getting this.
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in ‘Pillowtalk’
At the start of this year I bought a bunch of stuff from Charlotte Tilbury, and the product that really stood out to me was this lip liner. This product makes it so easy to ever so slightly overline your lips, and it gives me the most gorgeous, full lips that I’ve wanted my entire life. The shade ‘Pillowtalk’ is also the most beautiful nude ever, and is just ever so slightly darker than my natural lip colour and works perfectly with almost all of my lipsticks! I know Charlotte Tilbury is also bringing out a lipstick in this shade this year, so I definitely need to get my hands on that!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
I would say this was possibly one of the most anticipated makeup releases of 2016, and was definitely worth the hype. As soon as I got this palette (almost immediately after release!) I was obsessed. The shadows are so pigmented, and these shades, at the time, were like nothing else I had in my collection! As you can see, I’ve already hit pan on ‘Burnt Orange’ which is probably my favourite shade – I used this palette for the majority of 2016 and can’t see myself stopping anytime soon.
Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette
One of my purchases from the Sephora in Mexico (before we got Kat Von D in the U.K.) was this stunning contour palette. I had orginally wanted the ABH powder one but they were out of stock, so I purchased this and I’m so glad I did. I love the shade range and the powders blend so smoothly and effortlessly. I’ve been using this palette now pretty much daily for almost a year and I still haven’t hit pan on any of the shades, so I think this will last me a really long time!
Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Sweets’ Glow Kit
ABH Glow Kits were another majorly hyped about product this year, and for good reason. I had really wanted to get my hands on Gleam, but when I went to purchase they were all sold out so I grabbed Sweets instead. These shades are so pigmented and buttery – they give you the most intense glow of your life. Unfortunately, two of my shades arrived broken and I couldn’t exchange it for another one because they were out of stock, but it’s still totally usable and I’m still loving it.
(Sidenote: I thought I had taken a picture of the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in ‘Celestial’ but I hadn’t and I almost forgot to mention it (I know, I’m the worst blogger ever)!! But this product is probably my favourite ever highlighter and you can mix it in with your foundation to get a natural glowy look – it’s totally amazing and I’m so sorry I almost forgot it. Okay, I’m done now.)
So those were my favourite makeup products of 2016! I definitely loved so many products last year, but I can’t wait to see the new releases that 2017 brings (I’m looking at you, ABH Lip Palette).
I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know in the comments what your favourite products of 2016 were. See you next time,
