January Favourites 2019

We’re already a whole month into the year (gonna be honest, I did accidentally write 2018 in the title before I realised), and actually this month has felt ridiculously long. It doesn’t help that it’s totally freezing all the time – bring on spring am I right?

January began so well, I’d read five books in a couple weeks and was pretty good at keeping myself organised and productive – but then uni started and I’m basically a mess of a human again. Maybe one day I’ll get good at keeping resolutions.

I do, however, have a good range of favourites this month. I’m really excited to share them with you all, so let’s get straight into it!

I’ve honestly wanted to try the Dior Lip Glow for so long, and I finally got one for Christmas. I suck at reapplying any kind of makeup throughout the day but I do always carry lip balms with me, so a tinted lip balm is basically the best of both worlds.

I love that this uses your ph balance to create your perfect pink, and this shade has some glitter in it which helps to make your lips look juicier. I think this will look especially pretty in spring, but right now my chapped winter lips are majorly appreciating the hydration it gives.

I just recently reviewed this oil, and truthfully I can’t stop raving about it. This has really helped my skin stay radiant and hydrated throughout winter, which is always when my skin is at its worst, and I’ve been so impressed with the results.

I use a couple of drops of this every night in my moisturiser and it makes my skin feel so soft – I seriously can’t get enough.

These are two of my favourite books that I read in January – both true crime (obviously). Conversations with a Killer is awesome because it’s a direct transcript of the tapes recorded whilst Bundy was on Death Row – basically if you’ve just watched the Netflix documentary, I think you should give this a read.

I don’t know why it took me so long to read In Cold Blood but I’m so glad I finally did. It’s the craziest true crime story, I won’t say too much about it in case any of you haven’t read it but if you’re a fan of insane murder cases then definitely check it out – I read it in a day and just couldn’t put it down.

I’ve had this bronzer for ages now but I hadn’t used it in a while, purely because I’d been trying out newer ones in my collection. I’d been feeling like some of the others were a little too dark for my current skin tone, so I tried this again and oh wow. This is the best bronzer for lighter skin tones.

This adds warmth to my skin without looking orange or muddy, it just looks completely natural. It also smells insane – if you’re a fan of coconut scents then you’ll love this. I can’t believe I ever stopped using this because this is easily the best bronzer I’ve ever tried.

I love a good rosy-nude (I must have at least 15 in my collection by now, and no, I won’t stop buying them), and this ticks all the boxes for me. It’s a moisturising lipstick with a creamy matte finish (my fave), and it’s such a wearable colour for daytime or evening.

Also, I have to talk about the packaging because this is one of the prettiest lipstick tubes I’ve ever seen. I mean, blue marble? It just reminds me of the ocean and that makes me so happy. I’m so impressed with this lipstick, and I’d definitely recommend picking one up if you’re planning on making a Tarte order!

I’ve had this palette for a while now and I’ve been meaning to talk about it for ages but I always forget, so I’m doing it now. Usually I’m not so impressed with palettes like this because they’re either A. super messy or B. poor quality. Luckily this is neither!

The eyeshadows in this are all of the shades I typically use – bronzes, champagnes and golds – and it has everything I need to create a complete look. The blush is also the prettiest rosy-nude, as is the lipstick (clearly my favourite makeup shade), and the gloss is really pretty with tiny flecks of gold glitter!

This is the perfect palette to travel with because it has most of what you’ll need, and it’s just such good quality – I absolutely love it.

Yes, I’m putting an alarm clock in my favourites – hear me out. I hate waking up to that classic alarm beep (sometimes I think I can hear it even when I’m out of the house, it haunts me), and so I always wake up feeling exhausted and miserable. I get even worse during the winter because there’s nothing worse than waking up whilst it’s still dark – I’m sure you all agree.

I also really struggle to fall asleep because I’m always thinking of things I need to get done, so when I found this alarm clock that wakes you up with a simulated sunrise and prepares your body for sleep with a sunset, I was so down.

This is pretty expensive (I got it for £125 on sale), but I really feel like it’s made such a difference to my sleep. I have my sunset mode set to play underwater sounds and I’m always asleep within fifteen minutes, and I wake up to the gentle sounds of waves crashing and my room filled with ‘sunlight’ – it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. It’s definitely pricey for an alarm clock, but if you struggle to sleep/wake up then I’d recommend looking into this.

So those are my favourites this month! I hope you guys enjoyed this post, let me know in the comments what you loved in January. See you next time,

A x

Genuinely thought that the Ted Bundy Tapes on Netflix were so insightful to what the whole criminal justice system was like back in the 70’s, and how someone could have done such horror as Ted did. If the book is anything like the documentary series, then I can imagine you couldn’t put it down! I find that all so interesting.

I’ve wanted to try the Dior Lip Glow for years now but it kind of fell off my radar, maybe I’ll add it back to my wish list!
