July has been such an awesome month. England is in the middle of a heatwave and I finally feel like I’ve had a proper summer for the first time in years! I absolutely love the sun and insanely warm temperatures, so I’m definitely living my best life right now.
Warm weather means a lot of sunbathing with a good book, and I’ve managed to get through quite a few true crime books over the past month. I’ve been trying out some new skincare items too, as well as bringing back some old favourite products. So, here are the things I’ve been loving throughout July!
KIEHL’S CREAMY EYE TREATMENT
I’ve been looking for a really hydrating eye treatment which won’t irritate my eyes, and I’ve found the perfect one. This is super creamy because of the avocado, but it doesn’t feel heavy at all.
Since using this I’ve noticed my under eyes look a lot more hydrated, and I even think it’s gotten rid of some of the fine lines I’d started getting because of my eczema.
SUKIN NATURAL DEODORANT
I’ve been trying to find a good aluminium-free, natural deodorant for a while now – and after a lot of trial and error I’ve finally found a great one. I’m a huge fan of the brand Sukin, they’re incredibly natural and completely carbon-neutral, so I’m not surprised I love this.
A lot of aluminium-free deodorants don’t actually do much, but this one smells really citrus-y and leaves me feeling fresh all day. It took a couple of days for my PH levels to balance out and get used to a more natural deodorant, but I could never go back now.
BECCA BEACH TINT IN ‘GRAPEFRUIT’
I never like wearing a lot of makeup, but I especially don’t like to during summer. I’ve only been wearing a little concealer, mascara, brow gel and this cream blush and I love how fresh and natural it looks.
This is my go-to blush during summer – it’s a pretty, peachy-coral which gives a sun kissed flush and looks perfectly beachy. I can’t get enough!
SOAP AND GLORY LIPSTICK IN ‘PERFECT DAY’
I’ve recently rediscovered this lipstick, and it’s such a perfect shade for summer. I think they’ve discontinued it now, but it’s a stunning peach that gives the perfect pop of colour. I love wearing this smudged and blotted out for a really soft, summery look.
TRUE CRIME NOVELS
For as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated by true crime stories, and I’ve bought so many books that I’d never had the chance to read. Thanks to the sun, I’ve been able to read quite a few of them during July, and I’m even more obsessed now than I was before. My absolute favourite is The Stranger Beside Me, which is the story of Ted Bundy told by a true crime writer and old friend of his, Ann Rule. It’s so interesting because she has such a personal insight into the story, and I couldn’t put it down until I had finished it.
Another great one is Manson by Jeff Guinn (I also have the famous Helter Skelter, but I haven’t had the chance to read that yet). It goes into so much depth, not only about the Manson family, but also into Manson’s childhood. It gives the entire timeline from before his birth up until the end of the trials, and there were times I almost felt as though it was a fiction because it was so crazy.
I’ve only recently started Mindhunter, but after seeing (and loving) the show, I just had to read the book that inspired it. Interestingly, Ted Bundy claimed that the author, John Douglas, had the closest idea of what the mind of a serial killer looks like, so you know you’re getting some pretty accurate insight. This is a great starter book if you’re interested in true crime as it looks at a ton of different cases, and I can’t wait to read more.
I also just started Zodiac, and although I’m only a couple of pages in, I already know I’m going to love it. The mystery behind the Zodiac killer has always intrigued me, and I loved the movie so much that I couldn’t wait to read the book behind it.
So those are my July Favourites! I hope you guys enjoyed this post, let me know in the comments what you’ve been loving this month. See you next time,
