Anybody who is evenly remotely into make-up, especially lipstick, has at least heard of the magical MAC lipstick, if not owned a few themselves. Of course, being the lipstick junkie that I am, I own a few (I’ve somehow managed to restrain myself from buying every colour!) of the MAC lipsticks, and they honestly are all colours that I absolutely adore.
These lipsticks really are cult classics, and for a reason. The packaging is sleek, there are a crazy amount of colours to choose from, and the formula is always pretty good, especially for a £15.50 lipstick. Plus, the vanilla doughnut scent is to die for.
The four lipsticks I have are all different finishes, lustre, matte, cremesheen and satin. There are 9 different finishes, amplified, amplified cream, cremesheen, frost, glaze, lustre, matte, retro matte and satin. This makes MAC incredibly unique, as they have a wide range of shades in a wide range of finishes, making it easy to pick the best lipstick for you!
Cockney is actually the first MAC lipstick I ever purchased, a sheer red shade with a delicate pearl shimmer, typical of the lustre finish. Although I really love the colour and finish of this lipstick, it’s super sheer, and although it does get a little more pigmented if you build up the colour, it’s just not quite the vibrant, red lipstick I was hoping for. However, I do love the slight shimmer of this lipstick, and I think it would look really pretty on top of another red shade to give you a slightly more glamorous, evening look.
The next shade I bought is Lady Danger, a vibrant red-orange colour with a matte finish. This is a gorgeous colour, which is incredibly bright and looks great as a pop of colour on natural make-up. I do find the matte finish quite drying though, so I would recommend applying a whole lot of lip balm before you use this, as it really does emphasise any cracks or dry patches on your lips. The intensity of this lipstick is awesome though, it’s super pigmented and lasts for ages!
My third shade is Coral Bliss, a cremesheen finish lipstick in one of the most beautiful coral shades ever. I’m a huge fan of coral, it always makes me feel really summery and it works with my hair and skin tone perfectly. The consistency of this lipstick is also really lovely, it’s beautifully creamy and applies really evenly to the lips – this really is one of the best MAC lipsticks I own.
Brave is my most recent shade, a dusty-rose shade which is my new favourite colour at the moment. The satin finish is the perfect balance between a matte and a cremesheen, it’s incredibly long lasting but nowhere near as drying as the matte finish. I find this to be the best nude lipstick for my skin tone, a “your lips but better” shade, which gives you the perfect “rosebud lips” look which I’m constantly trying to achieve.
If you don’t have a MAC lipstick, I would definitely recommend spending £15.50 on the perfect shade and finish for you. I personally would recommend the satin finish, as it’s my favourite and I definitely think it applies and looks the best, but you should definitely look through all the shades and finishes, maybe even swatch a few, to find the best lipstick for you. There’s definitely enough shades for you to find one you’ll absolutely fall in love with!
