I was so excited when I received all nine shades of the new ‘The Only 1’ Matte Lipsticks from the lovely people at Rimmel, and I honestly couldn’t wait to share these amazing lipsticks with you guys. I actually haven’t ever tried the original ‘The Only 1’ lipsticks, but as I’m more of a matte finish kind of girl these are probably more up my alley anyways. I really love the packaging of these; the vibrant red screams Rimmel to me, and I especially love that they have the coloured band around the bottom, so you always know which shade you’re picking up without having to actually look inside the bullet.
These lipsticks are available in nine different shades, ranging from nudes all the way to deeper berries and browns, and I really think there is a perfect colour for everyone. Although these lipsticks have a completely matte finish, they promise to be non-drying and super pigmented, and let me tell you these are probably the creamiest matte lipsticks I’ve ever used. They glide on really easily, you only need one swipe for full opacity, and they feel so creamy without being in the slightest bit drying, but they stay completely matte.
I applied this lipstick at 9am and it stayed in place for five straight hours, lasting through eating and drinking without budging or getting patchy throughout the day. I also found that this lipstick didn’t transfer onto my glass when I was drinking or onto my hand when I did the ‘transfer test’ (you guys know what I’m talking about), which I was so impressed by.
Initially I was a little bit concerned by the actual tip of the lipstick, because it doesn’t taper in at the top like most lipsticks do but instead stays oval shaped, but I actually found this gave me a sharper line and easier application than other lipsticks – and I didn’t even need to use lip liner! My one complaint about this lipstick is that it has a really strange scent that I can’t even really describe, but it’s pretty strong and you can actually taste it as you apply it, however this does go away pretty quickly after application, so unless you’re really irritated by scented products you should be fine with this lipstick.
I actually love every single one of these nude shades, there’s the perfect mixture of warmer-toned shades and pink-y nudes, so these would work well on every skin type. I really love the slightly darker ‘High Flyer’ shade, because it’s a perfect dusty-rose which is one of my favourite shades to wear.
I’m not a huge fan of pink lipsticks on myself – or the colour pink in general – however ‘Call The Shots’ is just bright and coral enough that I don’t actually hate it and I think it would look really pretty in summer. ‘Take The Stage’ is a beautiful, classic red that I’ll definitely be wearing all throughout Christmas!
I’ve been looking for the perfect berry shade for autumn, and ‘The Matte Factor’ is definitely one of the best I’ve found – it’s probably my favourite shade from the whole collection! The purple and brown shades are a little out there for me; I’m still a little intimidated by brown lipstick even though it’s really in right now. The brown does have a red tone to it though, so I might step out of my comfort zone and give this one a go, however the purple will probably only ever be used for Halloween or a more out-there look.
I have to say as a Rimmel lipstick lover this collection definitely doesn’t disappoint, and for only £4.99 a lipstick this is an absolute bargain! I honestly would recommend these over something like a MAC lipstick, because although they have more shade options, these lipsticks are just as pigmented without being as drying as some of MAC’s matte shades.
I really hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know in the comments whether you’ve tried one of these lipsticks yet, or what your favourite shade is. See you next time!
