The 10 Best Shows on Netflix to Binge During Isolation

All I ever really want to do is watch TV, so the fact that I now have endless hours in the day to devote to solely that is definitely my favourite part about isolation.

Obviously being productive and trying to live life as normally as possible is really important right now too, however I think we’re all allowed to spend a little bit of our time escaping the real world for a while and being absorbed in a TV show.

I know people have preferred genres they like to binge, so I’ve made a list of my favourite shows that cover a range of genres – although it’s mostly comedies and horrors because let’s be real, they’re the best. If you’re looking for a new show to spend hours binging, look no further!

1. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Sunny is one of my all time favourite shows – it’s insane, hilarious and often utterly bizarre. It follows a gang of the most awful people who run a bar and get up to incredibly wild antics, every episode is one hell of a ride. There are 14 seasons and each episode is just under half an hour, so a great one to binge watch for hours! If you’re into Curb Your Enthusiasm then you’ll love this.

2. 3%

I’ve tried to get so many people into 3% because no one seems to have heard of it and it’s so good! It’s a Brazilian dystopian show which depicts a system called ‘The Process’, a series of tests that, if passed, allows 3% of the population to move from the slums into the wealth of ‘The Offshore’. It’s very dramatic, very gripping and the perfect pick if you love things like The Hunger Games.

3. Tiger King

I could hardly make a binge-watch list and not include Tiger King. I’m only half way through and its already one of the craziest things I’ve ever watched. If you somehow haven’t heard about it, it explores the lives of the big cat owners in America, and each episode just gets more and more wild. Watch one episode and you won’t be able to stop, trust me.

4. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp

I binged all of the Wet Hot American Summer series a couple of summers ago, and it’s still one of the best comedy shows I’ve seen. This series is a prequel to the movie, which is a satire of the American teen movies of the time. They’ve kept the same actors in the same roles, meaning that the adult actors are playing young teens which is truly hysterical to watch. It’s a completely ridiculous show but it’s guaranteed to brighten your day (and the sequel Ten Years Later is fab too!).

5. Typewriter

If you’re into horror-comedies then Typewriter will be right up your street. It’s an Indian show about kids who try to be ghost hunters, but things take a darker turn when they realise an actual spirit is haunting the town through a possessed typewriter. It’s a really awesome show which kind of has It vibes, and it’s super funny too! This is definitely one you have to check out.

6. Marianne

Everyone was raving about Marianne when it first came out, and for good reason. It’s definitely one of the scariest shows I’ve seen (it’s up there with Haunting of Hill House) and the story is really intriguing. The premise if awesome: a horror writer has to return back to her home town after the evil spirit in her stories becomes real. It’s only one season, but if you’re looking for a good horror then you have to see this.

7. Great News

This show was cancelled and I’m still so annoyed about it, but it’s a great gentle comedy that is so easy to watch. It’s from Tina Fey and it’s about a woman whose mum decides to come and work at her news station to get back into a career. There are only two seasons, but it’s a really easy one to binge and I’m embarrassed at how quickly I watched this entire show.

8. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

I don’t know a single person who doesn’t love Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and since they just put the new season on Netflix it’s the perfect time to binge-watch it. It’s an awesome cop comedy that’s super funny and makes me laugh out loud every. single. episode. Seriously, you can’t go wrong.

9. The Haunting of Hill House

Since the second season should be coming in November, there’s no better time to binge this show. I watched the whole season in a day and it’s still the best horror show I’ve ever seen – super scary, incredible acting and just so beautifully shot. It’s inspired by the book and tells the story of a family who move into a haunted house and how that effects them in the future. Awesome watch that you need to get on if you haven’t already.

10. The Good Place

I had to end it on a classic – since The Good Place just recently had it’s finale it’s the perfect time to binge. This isn’t just a super hilarious comedy (though it is that) but it’s also a really wonderful show about life, philosophy and friendship. Definitely binge this if you haven’t already, but be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions.

So those are my top picks for what to watch on Netflix during this lockdown – honestly I probably could have made a top 50 list but that might’ve gotten a little long. I hope you guys enjoy this post, let me know which shows you’d recommend for a binge-watching session! See you next time,

A x

Feel-good shows are a must during these times. Always Sunny is my all-time favorite show and I also love The Good Place and B99! I recently binged Stranger Things because I’ve been so behind on the times…
