Happy New Year everyone! I hope you’ve had an amazing festive period spent with loved ones – I’ve definitely enjoyed the time off and now I’m so ready to get back into blogging.
I was really good with my monthly favourite posts throughout 2017, so I thought it’d be fun to do a huge round up of favourites for the entire year.
Something I haven’t done for a while is a holy grails post, and I decided to combine the two to create an ultimate favourites/holy grails list, sectioned off by product type. If you’re on the hunt for some new staple makeup for 2018, just keep reading!
Throughout 2017 I tried out a few different foundation applicators, including brushes and the real techniques sponge, but ultimately I always came back to the Beauty Blender. There’s just nothing quite like it for blending out my foundation and giving me a completely even and natural application. It’s been my holy grail for a good few years now, and I can’t see that changing in the future.
BECCA BACKLIGHT PRIMING FILTER
I’ve raved about this non-stop on my blog over the past couple of months – it’s absolutely the best primer I’ve ever tried. This makes my skin look so dewy and feel incredibly hydrated, but it also gets quite tacky so makes my makeup last a really long time. You can see from the picture how much I’ve gone through – it’s the only primer I use anymore!
CHANEL VITALUMIÈRE AQUA
I’m a light-coverage foundation lover at heart – which I know definitely isn’t everyone’s cup of tea – but this foundation beats out all other light-coverage foundations. It has a satin finish so it’s not too dewy (although is there even such a thing?) and lasts a lot longer than most light-coverage foundations. I also find it covers just enough, so that my skin looks more even but still like my skin. If you love light-coverage foundations (how many times can I say light-coverage foundations?), or are looking for a good holiday foundation, then definitely check this one out.
NARS RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER, NARS SOFT MATTE CONCEALER, GLOSSIER STRETCH CONCEALER
I know you should technically only have one holy grail product, but I can’t help that I’m obsessed with concealers, okay? The NARS Radiant Creamy has been my holy grail concealer for so many years now, it just has such amazing coverage but with a really natural finish.
I love the NARS Soft Matte for when I want a little more coverage, but it still has the same beautiful finish as the Radiant Creamy. It’s also really gorgeous to use all over as an easy foundation (which I actually do with all three of these concealers). I really need to buy these two in a slightly darker shade though, as ‘Vanilla’ is a little too pale and pink-toned for me.
My last holy grail/favourite concealer is the Glossier Stretch Concealer. I originally hated this concealer – and I still don’t love it with a more full coverage foundation – but on its own and all over the face this is beautiful. When applied over a thicker foundation it can have the tendency to look a little thick and cakey but at the same time have no coverage, however using it without any foundation whatsoever gives the perfect amount of coverage and makes my skin look naturally flawless. If you want to pick something up from Glossier then I’d definitely recommend this.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY HOLLYWOOD CONTOUR WAND
This is a new holy grail for me – I used to love the Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette (and I still do!) but this is on another level. The shade looks so perfectly like a natural shadow, and it takes literally seconds for me to contour my face flawlessly. I’m absolutely buying another of these when I run out, I don’t think I could live without it now.
COVER FX PERFECT LOOSE SETTING POWDER
If you asked me at the start of last year what my favourite setting powder was I would absolutely answer Laura Mercier, but this Cover FX one is just so much more natural. I have super dry skin so I really don’t want my powder to look powdery or matte, I just want it to set my makeup and this does exactly that. The best thing about this is that they sell a smaller size for £10, so if you don’t want to invest too much into it then that’s a great option for you!
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS DIPBROW POMADE AND BROW GEL
Anastasia Beverly Hills has been my go-to brand for brow products for such a long time, and 2017 was no different. The Dipbrow is the easiest brow product I’ve ever used in my life, and it’s lasted me two years with no signs of giving up any time soon.
The brow gel is also really awesome, it keeps my brow hairs in place without making them crispy, and works really well for making them a little bushier. ABH is such an awesome brand for brow products and has a really great range of shades – if you’re looking to try out some new brow products then I’d definitely recommend looking at them.
MARC JACOBS TANTASTIC COCONUT O!MEGA BRONZER
I bought this bronzer in early 2017 and practically haven’t used anything else since – it’s absolutely awesome. Not only does this smell incredible (I’m talking a total coconut paradise), this also warms up my skin perfectly without being weirdly orange. It’s also the most giant bronzer ever so I will probably have it for the rest of my life – which I’m definitely not upset about.
ZOEVA NUDE SPECTRUM BLUSH PALETTE
Being a fairly pale person I generally try to stick to nude blushes, so this palette is absolutely perfect for me. I love that it has a range of matte and shimmer finishes, and the four different shades are all so beautiful! These blushes have the perfect amount of pigmentation and blend flawlessly onto the skin – for £15 you really can’t beat it.
BECCA SHIMMERING SKIN PERFECTOR PRESSED HIGHLIGHT IN ‘MOONSTONE’
I haven’t had this highlighter for very long but the first time I used it it immediately became my favourite. It’s both subtle and intense at the same time and gives me the most natural, beautiful glow. I really love that it doesn’t have any chunky glitter in it because I really hate that in a highlight, plus it’s the most gorgeous champagne shade that works perfectly on my fair skin.
MORPHE 15N NIGHTMASTER PALETTE, BECCA APRÉS SKI EYE LIGHTS PALETTE
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette was my holy grail for a really long time, but I’ve recently gotten more into bronzey tones and kind of moved on. The Morphe 15N has gorgeous plums and bronzes that can create really beautiful looks, plus it’s perfectly pigmented and has a great range of shades.
The BECCA Palette is one of the prettiest I’ve seen in a long time – it’s full of satin and shimmer finishes that I’ve really been loving recently to create a soft, glowy look, and the ranges of bronzes, golds and champagnes work with everything. If you’re an eyeshadow addict like me and need another palette in your life, definitely make it this one.
TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA
I fell in love with two different mascaras last year (the other being L’Oréal Paradise Extatic), but this one has to be my favourite. It keeps my lashes curled and adds tons of volume and intensity without being clumpy. If you don’t want to splurge then the L’Oréal mascara is a great dupe, but I personally love this one more because it lasts longer and doesn’t clump as easily.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY MATTE REVOLUTION LIPSTICK IN ‘BOND GIRL’
I’ve spoken about the Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks a number of times, so it’s no surprise that one of them is my holy grail. I strongly believe that ‘Bond Girl’ is my perfect shade – it’s like a nude combined with a rose combined with a brick red, so basically indescribably beautiful. It gives my lips that perfect ‘just bitten’ rosebud look that I feel like I’ve been after my entire life. It also stays feeling creamy and moisturising despite its matte finish – I can’t say enough good things about it.
GLAMGLOW GLOWSETTER SETTING SPRAY
I’d been on the hunt for the perfect setting spray all throughout 2017 and I’ve finally found it. If you want dewy, hydrated looking skin then this is the setting spray for you. It sets my makeup perfectly and makes it look incredibly natural – it’s absolutely the best setting spray out there.
So those are my holy grail products from 2017! I can’t wait to try out a bunch of new products over this year and maybe get some new favourites.
I hope you guys enjoyed my first (incredibly lengthy) post of 2018, let me know in the comments what your holy grail products are. See you next time,
