I get so surprised when I hear that some people don’t have an in-flight skincare routine, I don’t know whether it’s because I have such dry skin but I think my face would practically peel off if I didn’t at least bring a moisturiser onto the plane with me.
Travelling definitely takes a toll on my skin, but this skincare routine helps to somewhat combat the dryness I’d otherwise have to deal with. I don’t think this is the most intense of skincare routines, it’s really just about keeping my skin hydrated, but it’s probably the most I could manage whilst I’m also sat on a plane.
Sidenote: I also never, ever wear makeup on a flight – it’s pretty much as bad for your skin as sleeping in your makeup. Since my skin is still clean from my morning routine, I don’t really have to worry about cleansing (which would be a total nightmare on a plane).
I talked about my favourite overnight face masks for flying in a separate post, and I generally go between those three depending on what I have on hand whilst I’m rushing to pack the night before. I apply my face mask pretty much as soon as I board the flight, and since I don’t need to worry about washing it off, I’ll leave my skincare routine pretty much at that until it’s time to apply my moisturiser!
I try to stick to travel sizes for the plane ride, for obvious reasons, and this travel-size of the Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream* is absolutely perfect for flying. It’s really hydrating but not too intense, so it’s great for using after my overnight face mask. I typically apply this a couple of hours before I land – I’ll generally let the face mask do its thang for about eight hours before going in with the moisturiser.
As important as it is to moisturise your face, it’s also important to keep your undereyes hydrated. Since I’m typically exhausted on a long-haul flight, this also helps to reduce dark circles and de-puff. I apply my eye cream at the same time that I apply my moisturiser to make sure that my skin is getting all the hydration it needs!
Lip balm is an essential product to take onto a flight, and something that I tend to reapply quite a lot throughout the journey. I really love the Glossier Balm dot com because it’s super thick, so it almost acts as a lip mask. A tinted lip balm, like the ones from Burt’s Bees, are also great because it makes me feel a little more put together whilst wearing no makeup!
The last product I always make sure to bring with me on the plane is hand cream. My hands get super dry at the best of times, so I need something that I can reapply a lot to keep them hydrated during the flight. What I love about hand cream is that it can also double as a body moisturiser – sometimes I find my arms getting a little dry so I’ll use this on them too!
So that’s my entire in-flight skincare routine! I hope you guys enjoyed this post and got a few ideas of how to create your own skincare routine for travelling. See you next time,
